Rhodopsin

Rhodopsin is a member of the G-protein coupled receptor family. It is a pigment in the retina which is responsible for both the formation of photoreceptor cells and the first perceptions of light. It is extremely sensitive to light which enables viewing in low light conditions. When exposed to light, it immediately becomes photobleached and takes around 30 minutes to recover.
