Striated muscle

Striated muscle is often referred to as skeletal muscle as it largely attaches to bones by bundles of collagen fibers known as tendons.

It is made up of individual components called muscle fibers. The myofibers are made from long, multinucleated cells composed of actin and myosin myofibrils which repeat as a sarcomere. The sarcomere is what produces the striated appearance of the muscle and it is this basic machinery which is needed for muscle contraction.

Many bundles of myofibers come together to form muscle fibers which are then connected by connective tissue.
